The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) intends to award a Research and Development (R&D) sole-source contract to Mechem Consultants, 329 B Mundt Street, Waltloo Gauteng, South Africa, in support of DARPA's Unexploded Ordnance Program. Mechem will provide to DARPA the necessary MEDDS equipment, training aids and certification testing systems, with laboratory assistance to the "artificial nose" program. This effort is expected to be accomplished within eighteen months, with two one year options, at an estimated cost of $500,000. This source is the only known source to the Government capable of undertaking R&D in this specific aspect of Unexploded Ordnance Program. This effort will not replicate the results of any known R&D to which the Government has ready access; nor does this procurement duplicate any known or recent acquisitions of the same intent.
