Y -- CONSTRUCTION DREDGING, SAN JUAN HARBOR DEEPENING (PHASE I), SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO SOL DACW17-98-B-0008 DUE 060298 POC Contract Specialist Wanda Cruz (904) 232-2083 (Site Code DACW17) This phase of the project will reshape, deepen, and remove/replace navigation aids for the following portions of San Juan Harbor: (1) The Graving Dock Channel will be narrowed by 50 feet and deepened from a depth of 30 feet to a depth of 36 feet. (2) The Puerto Nuevo Channel will be widened by 50 feet and deepened from a depth of 32 feet to a depth of 39 feet. (3) Berthing Areas "I" through "0" along Puerto Nuevo Channel will be deepened to a depth of 40 feet. (4) The Puerto Nuevo Turning Basin will be reconfigured and deepened from a depth of 32 feet to a depth of 39 feet. (5) The Sabana Approach Channel will be widened by 150 feet and deepened from a depth of 30 feet to a depth of 32 feet. The above channels will be dredged to their new project depths plus 1 additional foot of required dredging plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth dredging. (6) The existing U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Light Nos. 3 and 5 are to be removed and replaced with new structures at the specified locations. In addition to the BASE BID items listed above (dredging approximately 3.5 million cubic yards), this contract will contain three optional bid items. OPTIONAL BID ITEM A covers the dredging of Berthing Areas "A" through "H" to a depth of 40 feet (approximately 171,000 cubic yards); OPTIONAL BID ITEM B covers the dredging of the Bar Channel (approximately 605,000 cubic yards of material); and, OPTIONAL BID ITEM C covers the dredging of an additional widener along the westerly edge of the Bar Channel (approximately 217,000 cubic yards). Optional Bid Items B and C will be reconfigured and will consist of several cuts with stepped depths of 56, 51, and 49 feet. The cut which has a project depth of 56 feet will not require dredging; however, the other cuts will be dredged to their new project depths plus 2 additional feet of required dredging plus 2 feet allowable overdepth dredging. Excavation of rock from Optional Bid Items B and C will require drilling and blasting. The majority of the dredged material (approximately 3.5 million cubic yards) will be placed in the approved offshore disposal area (ODMDS) located approximately 6 miles from the project site. The remaining portion of the dredged material-all material dredged from Station 39+40 to Station 86+21.95 of the berthing areas (approximately 184,000 cubic yards)-will be placed in a shallow mitigation disposal area located near the center of the Harbor, and all material dredged from Optional Bid Items B and C (approximately 822,000 cubic yards) will be placed in the Open Water Disposal Area (OWDA) located in the Harbor. Contract Performance Period: BASE Bid = 466 calendar days; Optional A = 25 calendar days; Optional B = 491 calendar days; Optional C = 130 calendar days. Magnitude of construction is more than $10,000,000. Pre-Solicitation Notice will be issued on or about 24 Feb 98. Invitation DACW17-98-B-0008 will be issued on or about 17 Apr 98 and opened on or about 02 Jun 98. Cost of Plans and Specifications is $50.00.
