B -- CULTURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY SOL 1422N660R983016 DUE 050198 POC Barbara Bellio -- 302/236-9438 or Marty Coffey -- 303/236-9439 WEB: Click here to download a copy of the RFP (Will be available on or about 4/1/98), http://www.BLM.gov/natacq/sol.html. E-MAIL: Click here to contact the Contracting Officer via e-mail., http://bbellio@nc1155wp.sc.blm.gov. The Bureau of Land Management(BLM), Kanab Office, Utah has a requirement to conduct a Class II cultural resource inventory of lands managed by the Grand Staircase -- Escalante National Monument in south-central Utah. A class II cultural resource inventory is intended to provide cultural resource specialists and managers with an objective basis for characterizing and estimating the potential distribution, diversity and density of cultural properties in a large area on the basis of a sample survey covering only a portion of the target area. Class II inventories may be conducted in several phases utilizing different sampling designs to improve statistical reliability. However, within individual sample units, survey goals, methods and intensity will be the same as those for a class III intensive inventory. The target area of the inventory is a large tract known as the Kaiparowits Plateau. The BLM desires intensive inventory of approximately 100, 160 acre quadrants, for a total of 16,000 acres. Dependingon the contractors cost per acre, inventory acreage will be adjusted up or down. The Kaiparowits Plateau is a physiographic subsection of the Colorado Plateau encompassing over 800,000 acres. The area is subdivided by numerous benches and tablelands that are dissected by canyons and isolated by cliff lines. The geological and physiographic variability of these benches, in tandem with a range in elevation from 4,000' on the south to 8,600' in the north, combine to produce extremely diverse environmental settings. Accordingly, prehistoric land-use patterns over the area can be expected to have varied widely through time and over the geography of the plateau. The coverage and quality of previous inventory on the Kaiparowits Plateau ranges from a well designed and executed 10% sample of coal lease tracts, to twenty-five year old compliance inventories of drill site locations with minimal site data and poor map plots. In addition, a dense Pueblo II/III occupation is well documented on the portion of the plateau known as Fiftymile Mt., but in general the range of site types, the temporal span of occupation and land-use patterns for the Kaiparowits are not well described. Period of performance: field work is expected to commence toward the end of May, all work, including the final report is to be complete within 290 days. All responsible sources may submit an offer which will be considered. The solicitation is expected to be issued on or about April 1, 1998. (0072)
