COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 17,1998 PSA#2053TECHNOLOGY CHALLENGE WEST IN SO. CALIFORNIA ON JUNE 3-5 TECHNOLOGY
CHALLENGE WEST, June 3-5. The National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA), NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and the Jet
Propulsion Laboratory invite industry, universities, national
observatories, government laboratories and other qualified institutions
to participate in Technology Challenge West to be held in Oxnard, CA on
June 3-5, 1998. This meeting, the follow-on to the 1st Annual NGST
Technology Challenge Review, will deal with the technology challenges
of NASA's Next Generation Space Telescope and the other large space
optical systems that follow in the Origins Program Roadmap. The
objective of this meeting is to provide a forum for technical
interchange that will serve to inform and advise NASA and potential
system contractors regarding existing, emerging and potentially
feasible future technologies relevant to the design, development,
launch and operation of large space optical systems. Technical sessions
will include the following areas: (a) Ultralightweight Mirror; (b)
Telescope and Interferometer Technology; (c) Science Instrument
Technology; (d) Spacecraft Technology; and (e) Ground/Flight Operations
Technology. Individuals and organizations responding to this
announcement should indicate their desire to participate and provide:
(1) a proposed title; (2) a brief presentation abstract (less than 100
words); and (3) indicate their preference for oral or poster
presentation format. Final selection of presentations will be made by
the Program Committee no later than May 1. The Program Committee may
also elect to issue invitations separately from this solicitation.
Responses are due April 15, 1998 and will only be accepted by E-mail at
techwest@pop.jpl.nasa.gov. This opportunity does not include financial
support. Participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging
costs as well as a $100 registration fee. Additional information is
