COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 18,1998 PSA#2054NDIA ARMY Y2K INDUSTRY WORKSHOP & EXHIBITION, EVENT #835, APRIL 13 --
15, 1998 "Army Seeks Solutions for Y2K Problems": To assist the United
States Army with its efforts to deal with the increasing importance of
information dominance beyond the Year 2000 (Y2K), together with
problems being encountered due to continual introduction of more
sophisticated technogolical weaponry to the inventory, the National
Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) will sponsor "Expediting Lessons
and Tools for the Final Stretch," an Army Y2K Industry Workshop and
Exhibition. The workshop is being conducted in coordination with the
Director of Information Systems for Command, Control, Commuications and
Computers (DISC4), Headquarters, U.S. Army and the Army Science Board,
and will take place at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington,
Virginia on April 13 -- 15, 1998. In the words of the Army's Chief of
Information Office (CIO), Lieutenant General William H. Campbell, "We
need to leverage lessons learned in industry and other government
agencies which will enable us to push solutions to system developers
and owners in order to guard against Y2K problems. This workshop is of
vital interest to everyone who faces the Y2K problem, especially
support contractors, Army system developers, and owners. The objective
of the workshop is to disseminate information and lessons learned on
how industry can help with perceived Y2K difficulties and obstacles. It
is an effort to take on the reality of the future that the Army's
ability to shoot, move, and communicate effectively will rely heavily
on automation. Because the Year 2000 problem could pose risks to the
Army's warfighters, the workshop will include panels and presentations
which involve experts on such topics as "Contingency Planning and Risk
Mitigation," "Testing and Validation," and "Renovation -- Tools and
Services". Along with LTG Campbell, speakers will include: Mr. John
Stephenson, General Accounting Office (GAO), Dr. Bert Fowler and Dr.
William J. Neal of the Army Science Board, and Mr. John Koskinen,
Federal Y2K Czar. For additional information on the workshop, contact
NDIA, at (703), at (703) 522-1820. To exhibit, contact Christy Kline or
