Requirements-The United States Environmental Protection Agency,
National Center for Environmental Assessment -- Cincinnati Office
(NCEA-CIN), seeks pre-proposals to conduct toxicological research
related to the development of human health risk assessment
methodologies for both cancer and non-cancer effects from environmental
exposure to mixtures of pesticides. Areas of interest include the
elucidation of mode of action; toxicokinetics of pesticides mixtures
interactions; and associated age-related risks. The pesticides of
interest include selected classes of organophosphate, organochlorine,
carbamate, and pyrethrin compounds. The research activities will focus
on the interactions of the pesticides mixtures and potential additive,
synergistic, or antagonistic adverse health effects. The intent is to
develop a three year cooperative agreement on the announced research
areas of interest with the primary purpose of designing the risk
assessment methodology. NCEA-CIN scientists will collaborate inthe
research by providing experimental design and risk assessment
methodology information, and by the authorship of research
publications. Pre-proposals must not exceed 10 pages and will be
thoroughly reviewed and evaluated by a technical evaluation panel of
scientists. Successful pre-proposals will be invited to submit a
competitive cooperative agreement application, including a full and
detailed project proposal for funding consideration. Depending on
funding availability, the awards are estimated to range from $50,000 to
$300,000 total over 3 years. Interested applicants must be eligible to
receive Federal Assistance under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide
and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), Section 20(a). ONLY NONPROFIT RESEARCH
INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE
UNDER THIS ACT SHOULD SUBMIT A REQUEST FOR PRE-PROPOSALS. Proposals
from other Federal Agencies are not solicited and will not be accepted.
