COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 23,1998 PSA#2057Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Division of

jboston@fdic.gov, jboston@fdic.gov. The Federal Deposit Insurance
Corporation (FDIC) is seeking sources to indicate interest in providing
services for the development of an enterprise wide remote network
access system. This system will be utilized to provide employees with
the ability to access FDIC computing resources from remote locations.
This may encompass the installation of requisite software on a
Corporation issued laptop computer or installation of a "thin client"
on an employee's personal home computer. The solution may take the form
of a hardware and software installation and ongoing system maintenance
that is performed by FDIC employees, or the solution may take the form
of a managed service provider that would handle all aspects of a remote
access system. The solution should be adequate to cover a user base of
approximately 5,000 individuals. It would be preferable if the
solution entailed a single location for requisite hardware and ongoing
maintenance rather than a solution that involved remote access servers
in multiple locations. An exception would be equipment at a secondary
site for purposes of disaster recovery. This is not a request for
competitive proposals. The purpose of this notice is to develop a list
of qualified firms who can provide this service. Companies are invited
to submit a conceptual approach to accomplish FDIC goals, and to
provide complete information discussing the following qualifications
and experiences: (1) Experience in the development of a remote access
network for large, multi-platform environments. Examples of past
products are desirable; (2) Experience in the management of large,
multi-year projects, coordinating the efforts of large numbers of
individuals; (3) Access to technical experts in all areas of IT
equipment, software, communications and related technologies; (4)
Experience in planning major conversion/implementation efforts.
Examples of past products are desirable; and (5) Specific information
on how this requirement can be satisfied. Candidates should outline key
issues for consideration and a conceptual approach. Background: The
FDIC technical environment consists of multiple platforms, e.g.,
centralized IBM mainframe, centralized and distributed client/server
network running Microsoft NT, and desktop PC's connected by a private
wide area network and numerous local area networks. Employees may need
to remotely access any of the previously detailed components. Examples
of products that may be required are: a project plan defining the
project scope, approach and schedule; and integrated target technical
architecture design; a conversion/implementation plan/schedule;
alternatives analyses for certain components of the architecture;
presentations for management and technical personnel; a user-friendly
booklet for non-technical personnel; and a product describing evolving
technologies that FDIC should watch for potential future incorporation
into the target technical architecture. Responses are required on or
before April 8, 1998. A response to this request for information does
notguarantee that a firm will be solicited or any solicitation issued
as a result of this request for information. Facsimile and telephone
responses will not be accepted. Responses should be sent to Joanne T.
