Division, under Prime Contract DAAE30-95-C-0009 is gathering
information on potential suppliers of tracked vehicle transmissions.
The transmission is needed for an alternative powerpack risk reduction
initiative for the Crusader 155-mm Self Propelled Howitzer and
Resupply Vehicle that may ultimately be used in full scale production
(estimated quantity -- 2700 units). The alternative propulsion system
will consists of a Perkins CV12, 1120kw engine mated transversely to a
fully automatic, digitally controlled, drive-by-wire transmission. The
general requirements for the transmission are as follows: 1. Input
rating: Power 1120kw (1500 hp) Speed: Adjustable for engine 2400 rpm 2.
Output rating: Max torque 0.8 one-side tractive effort Max speed,
forward at least 67 kph @ 58.5 tonne @ 1.4% grade Max Speed, reverse at
least 20 kph @ 58.5 tonne @ 1.4% grade Steering torque Variable speed
controlled regenerative crescent steering capability 3. Control:
Digital control with BIT/BITE fault isolation. Drive-by-wire control
compatibility for brake, steering and gear selection functions. Capable
of steering and braking with no engine power (dead engine control). 4.
Power take off (PTO): Capable of providing two or three PTO's rated at
100kw to 250kw with speed ratios up to 6.5:1. 5. Dimensions: Not to
exceed 1750 mm in width 800mm centerline output to centerline input 905
mm height 280mm transfer arm width 6. Weight Not to exceed 2475 kg 7.
Braking Capable of deceleration at a rate of 5 meters/second. Potential
qualified suppliers are requested to submit a capability statement to
Graydon Myhre, in writing, at M389, INTERNET at graydon_myhre@udlp.com
or by facsimile at 612-572-4964 by April 30, 1998. Capability
statements can be in supplier format, and should include, at a minimum:
1. A narrative discussion or report addressing the current status and
performance of the candidate equipment along with supporting data. 2.
A narrative discussion of the unique technical capabilities and
expertise of the organization. 3. A narrative discussion outlining the
organization's best possible delivery schedule for one transmission to
be delivered to United Defense. Respondents to this notice will not be
notified either of the receipt or the assessment of the information
submitted. Neither the cost of preparing capability statements nor the
cost of providing the request information will be entertained as
allowable direct charges to any resultant subcontract. This
solicitation does not obligate United Defense, L.P. to enter into any
