The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Commercial Remote Sensing Program (CRSP) is soliciting proposals to increase the number of U.S. universities participating in its Affiliated Research Center Program (ARC). As part of NASA's charter to encourage the commercial development of space through the promotion of new space ventures and the development of new space technologies, CRSP initiated the Affiliated Research Center (ARC) program in 1996. ARC was built on the successful Visiting Investigator Program (VIP) which was started in 1988. As a result of this success, the program was extended to offer entry-level partnerships through four university-based Affiliated Research Centers. Through this NASA Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN), NASA intends to add up to four new university based ARCs. The eight capstone ARCs will form the broadened framework of CRSP's extension programs.
