A -- AIR WARRIOR ELECTRONIC DATA MANAGER INDUSTRY WORKSHOP POC Mr. David DeRieux, Code 8144, (202) 767-0002 WEB: click here, airwarrior.nrl.navy.mil. The Naval Research Laboratory Space Systems Development Department C4I Branch (NRL SSDD C4I)will host a two-day Industry Workshop on May 13-14, in the Auditorium of Building 222, 0800-1700 hours. The address is Naval Research Laboratory,4555 Overlook Avenue, SW, Washington, DC 20375-5000. The purpose of this workshop is to present the role of the Electronic Data Manager (EDM) in the Air Warrior Program, the NRL's future vision of the EDM, and to highlight opportunities for industry participation. NRL is interested in approaches/technologies that can maximize use of commercial-off-the-shelf technologies. Therefore, participation is requested from all segments of industry. Under the sponsorship of the U.S Army Program Manager -- Aircrew Integrated Systems (PM-ACIS), the NRL is developing a rugged, lightweight, low-power aircrew aid integrated with the aircrew ensemble being developed under the Air Warrior Program. The EDM will replace the traditional aircrew kneeboard with an electronic data manager to enhance aviation mission crew effectiveness on digitized and non-digitized platforms. The EDM will support multiple functions available through hardware/software components using such devices as PCMCIA cards and other advanced peripherals. The NRL is currently investigating and developing near-term strategies and long-term visions to provide the aviation warfighter with a comprehensive, small, lightweight, low-power, electronic data manager device. Important technology areas that will enable this vision include: small computer/embedded processor technologies, small/non-reflective displays, long-life batteries, wireless intercoms, radios and communications, GPS, mapping software, aviation mission planning software, situational awareness software, and aviation performance calculation software. Meetings on both days will be unclassified; all attendees are requested to submit a request to confirm attendance no later than 13 April 1998. All firms are limited to no more than two attendees. Please include attendee names, firm name, address, zip code, phone number with area code, FAX, and e-mail. Submit requests to Mr. David DeRieux- via FAX at 202-767-4174 or 202-404-6359, or via email at derieux@kingcrab.nrl.navy.mil. No phone in registrations will be accepted. If you wish to present materials, briefings, etc. during the workshop, please submit your request to the above POC stating the technology area and general subject area to be presented. No proprietary information will be accepted; this is intended to be a free and open forum. All presentations are welcomed, however, the number of presentations that can be accommodated is limited; presentation slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Briefing time duration is limited to no more than 15 minutes per [firm]. Please send your request to present to the above POC no later than 13 April 1998.
