B -- NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD CONTRACT TO THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL SOL DE-RP01-98FD00037 POC Douglas L. Baptist, (202) 426-0034 The US Department of Energy intends to award a contract (number DE-AC01-98FD00037) to the National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council (Council). This award is being made pursuant to Federal Acquisition Regulation 6.302-1 and Executive Order 12832. Under the proposed acquisition, the Council will perform a review and assessment of the Department's operations to identify the effectiveness of current management practices and structures for identifying, managing, designing and constructing facilities and to develop recommendations for improvement. The performance of this effort will conform with the policies and guidelines set forth in the Council's Charter. The assessment will encompass a review of diverse, large operating projects in areas including, but not limited to: environmental restoration and waste management; basic science and technology; weapons stewardship; and, energy systems. The subject contract is a follow on to the first phase of the review and assessment effort which was completed by the Council in February 1998.
