The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for a 5D-Laser Measuring System, to be used in the development of a specialized artifact, virtual ball step gage, to assess measurement displacement errors of the laser tracking measurement system. The required system shall be able to simultaneously measure important rotation and translation motions of an artifact moved along a nominally straight path in the measurement volume. Delivery is within 6-8 weeks after issuance of a purchase order. The FOB Point shall be destination, Gaithersburg, Maryland. It is the intent of the Government to negotiate only with Automated Precision Inc., of Gaithersburg, Maryland, as the only source reasonably available to satisfy the needs of this agency, in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b)(1). Automated Precision Inc., is the only company able to provide a system capable of simultaneously measuring the necessary rotation and translation motion. The Government intends to issue a firm fixed price purchase order for this requirement. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. However all quotations received by the response date of 4/7/98 will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed acquisition, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No solicitation package is available. (0084)
