Daugherty_Lori%PAX9B@MR.NAWCAD.NAVY.MIL. This is a SOURCES SOUGHT for
the design and manufacture of a speed increaser gear box capable of
transferring 18,500 shaft horsepower from a helicopter transmission to
power absorbing water brakes. The gear box must be capable of
operating at 179 RPM input speed at 18,500 SHP and 320 RPM input speed
at 3,000 SHP. Also, it must be capable of operating 20,000 hours at
maximum rated conditions without overhaul. The gearbox input pinion
shall be capable of operation in the range 0-320 RPM and the gearbox
output pinions shall be capable of operation in the range 0-10,240 RPM.
It shall be capable of operation at an ambient temperature range of 20
degrees Fahrenheit to 150 degrees Fahrenheit. It shall not exceed
35,000 lbs. dry. Contractor shall be required to supply a lubrication
system for the unit. The unit must be designed for not less than 10,000
hours Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF). The unit shall have at least
three high speed outlet pads to accept water brakes. The unit will be
installed in the Helicopter Transmission Test Facility at the Naval Air
Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Patuxent River, MD. This notice of
potential sources sought is not a request for proposals and there is no
solicitation available at this time. However, interested persons may
identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement by
submitting documentation to the office identified above. Interested
sources must submit documentation by fax, clearly establishing
capability to meeting the above requirements within fifteen (15) days
after the date of publication of this synopsis to be considered.
Information received in response to this notice will normally be
considered solely for the purposes of determining whether to conduct a
