COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 27,1998 PSA#2061IHS, Alaska Area Native Health Service, Area Office of Acquisition
Management, 4141 Ambassador Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99508-5928 U -- COMPREHENSIVE INJURY PREVENTION PLANNING SOL 243-98-R-5070 POC
Geraldine Moeller, Contract Specialist, (907) 729-2969 The Indian
Health Service, Alaska Area Native Health Service, intends to contract
on a sole source basis with the Anchorage Safe Community
Coalition(ASCC) for the period of one year with two one-year options
for extension. The purpose of the ASCC and the intent of this contract
will be to provide comprehensive injury prevention planning and
programs to promote greater safety and health for Alaska Natives.
Alaska Natives experience high unintentional injury and suicide rates
and injury is now the leading cause of death for Alaska Natives. Given
the unique nature of injury events in the Anchorage area and the fact
that the ASCC is the only existing community wide injury prevention
coalition addressing a complete range of injuries, sole source
acquisition is considered appropriate. The Alaska Area Native Health
Service has a compelling and immediate need for this service. Total
funding to the ASCC for the first year will be $45,000. Statutory
authority for this acquisition on a Other Than Full And Open
Competition basis is found at 41 U.S.C. (253)(c)(1). See numbered note
