of this office to award a contarct to Schiebel Technologies, Inc. of
Washington, D.C to development and test of several new technology
enhancements to the AN/PSS-12 hand-held metallic mine detector. These
are modular attachments that can be used with the AN/PSS-12 in
humanitarian demining environments. This effort is not intended to
modify the basic military version of the AN/PSS-12. The enhancements
will primarily consist of improvements to power sources, alternative
electric energy collection capabilities and mine marking. All of these
enhancements shall be performed on the standard AN/PSS-12 hand held
mine detectors. The enhancements shall incorporate innovative and
state-of-the-art production methods, lightweight materials and printed
circuit techniques in order to increase detection capabilities and
search speed. The purchase is being made under the auspices of Other
than Full and Open Competition in as much as Schiebel Technologies, Inc
is the developer and sole marketer of the AN/PSS-12 hand-held metallic
