COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 2,1998 PSA#2065Los Alamos National Laboratory, Mail Stop C331, P.O. Box 1663, Los
Alamos, NM 87545 A -- BASIC RESEARCH WORK SOL CITPO-98-109 POC Send the required
information to Laura Barber, Civilian & Industrial Technology Programs,
Mail Stop C334, P.O. Box 1663, Los Alamos, NM 87545. The University of
California, which operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)
under contract to the Department of Energy, solicits interest from
companies wishing to license, develop and market a unique set of
technologies: the Beta Particle Monitor for Surfaces and the Radiation
Monitor for Liquids. The Beta Particle Monitor for Surfaces is used to
measure the beta contamination on metal, concrete, and other surfaces.
Ions generated by beta particles over a contaminated area are
transported to an ion detector by an electric field. Monitors based on
this technique are particularly useful for detecting low-energy beta
radiation, such as that coming from Tritium or Technetium-99. The
Radiation Monitor for Liquids can be used to measure the amount of
alpha-emitting contamination present in a liquid or waste stream.
Monitors based on this technique are useful for measuring the alpha
radiation emitted from the surface of a liquid. Ions generated by alpha
particles emitted from the surface of a liquid are transported to an
ion detector by an electric field. Interested organizations must
possess existing capabilities in manufacturing, marketing and support
services in the domestic marketplace. Any organization with interests
in the above mentioned areas must respond with a written statement of
intent which addresses, in detail, the following: (1) Must provide a
description of the organization's business, business goals, and a
description of the Board of Directors, Officers, and technical staff;
(2) must demonstrate a strong and successful background in radiation
instrumentation, manufacturing, and sales; (3) must describe technical
expertise related to radiation detection instrumentation; (4) must
describe and demonstrate manufacturing capabilities relevant to
radiation instrumentation; (5) must describe and demonstrate marketing
capabilities relevant to radiation instrumentation; (6) must show
financial resources (e.g., annual report) and motivation for
participating in this program. The statement must address this
information in detail or the organization will not be considered as a
potential licensee. The statement must be postmarked within ten
calendar days of the date of this notice. (0090) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0007 19980402\A-0007.SOL)
