22191-1215 25 -- LIGHTWEIGHT ROADWHELL FOR THE AAAV DUE 043098 POC John P.
Martin, Contract Specialist, (703) 492-3329 DESC: Market Research: The
Direct Reporting Program Manager (DRPM) for the Marine Corps Advanced
Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) is conducting market research to
determine the commercial availability of a lightweight roadwheel for
the AAAV. The Marine Corps wants to purchase a sufficient number of 23
inch diameter wheels (including the rubber running surface) to carry
out validation testing. The roadwheel must be available by 1 March 99
in order to conduct testing prior to roadwheel selection. The
roadwheels should weigh no more than 42 lbs (40 lbs desired) with an
average life of 6000 miles and full production procurement costs should
be comparable to current lightweight aluminum roadwheels now in service
with the Army and Marine Corps (for example the M109 aluminum
roadwheel). The roadwheels must have an integral wear ring capable of
withstanding track impact and abrasion loads and interface with the
Bradley, BFV roadwheel hub. The roadwheels must be capable of
withstanding the extreme marine environment as well as the high
structural loads occurring during routine operation of a 76,000 lb
tracked vehicle. Additional Information is available on the AAAV web
page (http://www.aaav.hqi.usmc.mil) or can be requested through email
to the following address: aeng@notes.hqi.usmc.mil. The AAAV point of
contact is Mr. John Martin (703) 492-3329. The closing date for this
request is 30 April 1998. Companies with an existing roadwheel design
or currently developing a roadwheel design that would be available in
the timeframe noted above should provide design characteristics and
performance data to: (U.S. Mail address) DIRECT REPORTING PROGRAM
