93 -- BALLISTIC PROTECTIVE MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT SOL W13G07-CBD8-0018 POC Janet Ward (508) 233-5462 (Site Code DAAN02) The U.S. Army Natick Research, Development and Engineering Center is conducting market research to identify material systems or helmet end items which provide protection against the following bullet threats: "9x19@350m/s (handgun), 9x19@280m/s (handgun), 9x19@390m/s (handgun), 9x19@315m/s (handgun), 7.62x25@450m/s (handgun), 7.62x25@420m/s (handgun), 7.62x39@710m/s (rifle), 5.56x45@948m/s (rifle), and 7.62x54R@830m/s (rifle)." This center is looking for new systems offering a reduction in weight over 1995 technologies at no or marginal cost increases for complete ballistic shells or add on auxiliary ballistic components. There is interest in ALL technology areas and is not limited to composites, ceramic and non-ceramic based technologies. Interested firms are requested to submit information on their products within thirty (30) days following the publication of this synopsis. This should include as a minimum, an item description that details the material description including a real density, any ballistic certification, cost estimates and any other specific information that the firm believes demonstrates the value of their technology/system(s). It should also include information on performance against fragment simulating projectiles and the specific threats listed above, along with environmental/durability assessments (e.g., water, POL, drop).
