A/E Services for the development of construction contract drawings,
specifications, and documents; and construction period services for
project no. 512-500, Renovate Ward 23B, VA Medical Center, Perry Point,
MD. The project will include preparation of preliminary architectural
plans with cost estimates of all proposed work, contract drawings and
specifications to fully depict work to be completed. This includes
complete renovation of the third and fourth floors of Building 23H
(Long Term Care Nursing Unit) at the Perry Point site of the VA
Maryland Health Care System. The renovation consists of completely
replacing major utility systems: including heating, ventilation and air
conditioning, electrical, oxygen, air and vacuum systems, nurse call
system, communication system, plumbing, sprinkler and fire alarm
systems. New heating and air conditioning equipment will be installed
in two existing mechanical towers. Asbestos and lead abatement will be
required. A complete redesign of interior space will be accomplished
to provide ADA compliant bedrooms, private and semi-private bathrooms,
dayrooms, nurses stations, and other support space. VA space planning
criteria (H08-9) will be used as a guideline in reconfiguration of
space. An additional exit will be provided from the fourth floor to
comply with NFPA 101, Life Safety Code. Work will include demolition,
electrical, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, masonry, asbestos/lead
abatement, and any other craft necessary to accomplish work. The
estimated construction range is $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. Only firms
with prior experience in the design of similar type projects, and those
with professional capacity to complete this type of work, will be
considered. This is not a request for proposal and is unrestricted as
to business size. Those firms which meet the requirements are invited
to submit two copies of Standard Forms 254 and 255 no later than May 6,
1998, at 4:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time to VA Maryland Health Care
System, Building 101, Room 26B, Perry Point, MD 21902. SIC Code is 8712
and the size standard is $2.5 million. Award is subject to the
