C -- REPLACE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM; REPLACE HIGH VOLTAGE DISTRIBUTION SOL 596-14-98 DUE 052798 POC Mildred Caywood, 606/281-3958 Services of an electrical Architect-Engineering firm, with special emphasis on fire alarm system application, to investigate, design, prepare bid documents, and provide construction period services for two projects at VA Medical Center, Lexington, KY.: (1) Project No. 596-98-101, Replace Fire Alarm System(C), Cooper Drive Division (CDD), will involve review of existing fire alarm systems, investigation of alternative methods of replacement or updating of the systems into a single system, and design and layout of the new system judged most appropriate by VA. The CDD was built in two main phases: the original structure with a 120V AC analog signal based fire alarm system was activated in 1973; the Clinical Addition with a 12V DC microprocessor controlled fire alarm system was activated in 1989. The two systems must be replaced by a single system operating throughout the approx. 750,000 GSF of protected space. Estimated construction cost range between $500,000 and $1,000,000. (2) Project No. 596-98-107, Replace High Voltage Distribution (L), Leestown Division (LD), will involve review of the components of the secondary electrical distribution system exterior to the buildings, identification of components requiring replacement, identification of estimated life cycle of components to remain, and design details. Estimated construction cost range between $250,000 and $500,000. Drawings shall be accomplished on "CAD" and be compatible with VA Autocad system format software, currently Autocad Release 13. Area of consideration is restricted to businesses within 100 mile radius of Lexington, KY. Interested firms must submit completed SF 254's and 255's no later than COB May 27, 1998.
