NASA LaRC plans to issue a NASA Research Announcement (NRA) 98 -- LaRC -- 4 on or about April 20, 1998, for advanced broadband thermal detector technologies that will enhance current and future spaceborne Earth radiation measurement instruments which include the .6 micron to greater than 100 micron region. Specifically, this announcement solicits proposals for: advanced thermal detectors, advanced thermal detector fabrication methods leading to detector array fabrication, detector broadband coating technology, detector calibration, advanced detector electronics and detector modeling and simulation. Participation in this NRA is open to all individuals and categories of foreign and domestic organizations, including industry, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, NASA Centers and other Government Agencies. Proposers may respond with innovative concepts in any or all of the listed technology areas. Technical evaluation will be conducted through a peer review process by discipline specialists within NASA. Proposals for up to 3 years of research effort will be solicited. Approximately $175K of FY98 funds have been allocated for awards under this NRA. It is anticipated that $450K will be available for 1999 through 2000. Cost sharing arrangements may be proposed. Multiple awards may result from this announcement.
