(AURA) is seeking qualified vendors to provide a steel Dummy Rotator Weight Assembly for the Gemini 8m Telescopes Project based upon detailed design drawings provided by AURA. This assembly will consist of a large octagonal ring with a central hole and eight smaller rectangular components fastened to the faces of the octagon. The large component will be made from A36 steel and will fit within an annulus 57"ID, 73"OD and 11" thick, and will weigh approximately 6,700 lbs. The top and bottom faces of this component must be turned and there is a PCD of tapped holes on the top and bottom faces. Two additional tapped holes are required on each of the eight octagon facets. The smaller components will be rectangular in shape 29"x10.5"x7" made from A36 steel. Each will weigh approximately 640 lbs. There are three through clearance holes required for fasteners. The Gemini 8m Telescopes Project is an international collaboration to build two 8 meter telescopes, one to be located on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the other to be located on Cerro Pachon in Chile. The Gemini project partners include the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The Gemini project is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA) under contract to the National Science Foundation.
