tleap@pica.army.mil. On behalf of the Program Manager -- Tank Main
Armament Systems (PM-TMAS), the US Army Tank-Automotive and Armament
Command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center
(TACOM-ARDEC) intends to solicit for Metal Injection Molding (MIM) of
fins for the M829E3 APFSDS-T 120mm Cartridge made of 17-4 stainless
steel in accordance with Government provided drawings. The current
generation of Kinetic Energy (KE) tank ammunition using an aluminum
alloy fin to provide stability during flight. Since the fin must pass
through an igniting propellant bed and because of frictional heat
during flight, the fins must be hard coat anodized to survive this
environment. It is believed that future generations of tank ammunition
will necessitate a change in fin material from low melting temperature
aluminum to a medium strength, higher melting point material such as
steel. The contractual effort will be broken into three distinct tasks;
definition of MIM processing parameters, MIM processing optimization
and limited rate production estimated at 230 fins. ACQUISITION
STREAMLINING PROCEDURES will include posting of a draft and the formal
Request for Proposal (RFP) on ARDEC's "PROCNet" website located at
http://procnet.pica.army.mil. ELECTRONIC COMMERCE CONSIDERATIONS
include the intent, insofar as practicable, of conducting this
acquisition electronically, with minimum actual paper. However, in the
event paper submissions are requested or become unavoidable, submit
