EXTERNAL TANK LONG LEAD HARDWARE EXTERNAL TANK LONG LEAD HARDWARE The Government intends to direct its contractor for the production of Space Shuttle External Tanks, Lockheed Martin Corporation, New Orleans, Lousiana, to procure long lead items for External Tank Production Buy 6. This direction will be provided under the current External Tank production contract (NAS8-36200). Following two previous noncompetitive acquisitions for other long lead items, this acquisition provides for the balance of long lead hardware and material for the production of sixty (60) External Tanks required for the Space Shuttle Program. This includes the balance of the hardware and material for External Tank liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen pressure vessels, electrical and propulsion/mechnical systems, interface and final assembly; and thermal protection systems.
