The symposium will focus on modern methods in structure determination by x-ray diffraction and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, computer modeling of complex biological processes involving proteins, the thermodynamic and kinetic basis for the stability of biological macromolecules, the application molecular biological approaches to adapting heterologously expressed macromolecules for use in vertebrae tissues, the potential for the information arising from genomic sequencing of organisms to revolutionize biology, and the value of basic research to medical and industrial applications of biotechnology.
