SOFTWARE POC Gwendolyn Woods 228/688/2109 WEB: Specifications for
acoustic doppler measurement system,
http://wwwhif.er.usgs.gov/public/acoustic.html. E-MAIL: Contracting
Officer, gawoods@usgs.gov. This is not a solicitation notice. The U S
Geological Survey has prepared for industry comment preliminary
specifications and related information for an acoustic discharge
measurement system. This system is composed of an acoustic doppler
profiler, a personal computer (laptop or desktop) and a discharge
program running the computer. The profiler must operate under the
supervisory control of the user acting through the computer program.
When commanded by the user, the profiler must perform the measurements
which are fundamental to a discharge calculation and periodically
transfer the results in the form of data ensembles through its data
interface to the computer program. The profiler must continue this
operation until commanded by the user to stop. The data ensembles are
processed by the computer program as required to determine the
discharge and compile a final record. The program (software) must
integrate the operations of the other system components into a fully
orchestrated discharge measurement procedure. It must provide the
interface through which the user can prepare the system for
measurement, start and stop the measurement procedure, monitor and
control measurement operations, and support the playback and post
processing of measurement records. During a measurement it must acquire
data from the system components, process the data as needed to
determine the discharge, and create and store the measurement records.
The Request for Comment (RFC) document will be available on or about
April 20, 1998. No formal solicitation or contract will result from
this synopsis. Any subsequent formal solicitation will be synopsized
prior to its release. Comments received as a result of this review may
be incorporated into the final specifications and related information.
The RFC may be obtained on the WEB or upon written request. No
telephone request for the RFC document will be accepted. Any comments
in response to this RFC must be received within 30 days after issuance
of the RFC document. The Government does notintend to pay for the
information solicited except as provided in subsection 31.205-18,
Independent Research and Development and Bid Proposal Costs, of the
Federal Acquisition Regulation. Any questions should be addressed in
writing to Gwen Woods at the address specified in this announcement or
