COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 14,1998 PSA#2073NIMA'S REPEAT BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY DAY The National Imagery and Mapping
Agency (NIMA) plans to host a repeat session of its second annual
Business Opportunity Day (BOD) on May 7, 1998 for those companies that
were not able to attend the session held in Virginia on March 12th.
All industry representatives are invited to attend this event. However,
information that will be provided on May 7th will essentially be the
same information provided back in March. This repeat Business
Opportunity Day will be held at the St. Louis University, St. Louis
Room, Busch Memorial Center, St. Louis, Missouri, May 7, 1998, from
9:00 am until 3:00 PM CST. This Business Opportunity Day coincides with
DoD Acquisition Stand-down week. NIMA intends to use this repeat
Business Opportunity Day as NIMA Acquisition Stand-Down Day as well and
solicit interaction with industry for identifying improvements to the
acquisition processes within NIMA. During its first year, NIMA sent a
clear message to industry that it seeks to improve mission performance
by capitalizing on proven commercial capability, capacity and
efficiency. Industry has become crucial in producing products that go
directly to NIMA's military and national customers. Industry remains
the key provider of the technology used internally by NIMA and supplied
to our customers. As more non-core functions are out-sourced, Industry
provides an increasing amount of NIMA's internal support to customers.
Currently, more than one-half of NIMA's total budget flows to the
private sector for acquisition of technology, products and/or services.
As private companies have responded to NIMA's initiatives, they have
consistently requested information about planned contract dollar levels
in order to conduct strategic business planning, capitalization and
expansion. Present and prospective contractors have requested that they
be informed of potential or effective reductions or increases to
multiple year contract dollar levels that result from the budgeting
process. The Business Opportunity Day program will address those
industry questions with unclassified information about NIMA future
requirements, contract opportunities and funding levels. Information
concerning this event may be found on the NIMA home page at
http://164.214.2.59/comad/bod98-stl.html. A Draft agenda is available
on the NIMA home page. The final agenda is expected to be posted on the
NIMA home page by mid April. Additionally, NIMA will run several
demonstration and information booths throughout the day. These booths
will provide all attendees displays of various imagery and geospatial
products and services that NIMA provides to their customers. Technical
and contracting representatives for the products and services
outsourced to industry and a NIMA Small and Disadvantaged Business
specialist(s) will be attendance at those booth. Registration is free.
NIMA will initially take registrations for up to two individuals per
company location. All registrations must be received no later than 29
April 1998. It is requested that participants register electronically
using the form available on the NIMA home page. Registration
confirmation will be provided prior to the conference. For additional
