145, Fort Peck, MT 59223 59 -- PULSE TRANSFORMERS FOR HVDC CONVERTER STATION SOL
DE-RQ-65-98-WE-06055 DUE 042598 POC Holly W. Kittleson (406)526-3423
The Western Area Power Administration (Western), Montana Maintenance
Office, intends to acquire, on a SOLE SOURCE basis, twenty five (25)
pulse transformer assemblies from Power Products, Inc. Western intends
to solicit one source under authority of FAR 13.106.2(a)(5), which
authorizes contracting without providing for full and open competition
when only one source is reasonable available. The pulse transformer
assemblies are an integral part of the Miles City HVDC converter's
valve firing system which was designed and built by General Electric
(GE). The assemblies distribute the pulse produced by the gate drive
units necessary to fire four thyristor voltage levels on a valve
module. There are two pulse transformers per assembly. They were
designed and built by GE to meet specific electrical criteria along
with the ability to fasten directly in the GE valve modules. Power
Products, Inc. is the only known source that has the proprietary
engineering specifications and drawings necessary to manufacture these
specialized transformer assemblies. Anticipated award date is April
27, 1998. This notice is not a request for quotes. However, interested
parties may identify their written interest and capability to satisfy
the Government by faxing the CO at 406-232-8500. Capability statements
must provide documentation of the capability of manufacturing a direct
replacement for the pulse transformers utilized at the Miles City HVDC
Converter Station. See Note 1. (0103) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0216 19980415\59-0010.SOL)
