DUE 051498 POC Carl Adema (301) 227-4981 The Carderock Division, Naval
Surface Warfare Center (NSWCCD) seeks sources within industry for
chemical agents and procedures to be used for cleaning ceramic
ultrafiltration membranes fouled from processing bilgewater from U.S.
Navy ships. Cleaning processes shall be used to remove bilgewater
contaminants from silica membrane surfaces and pores without damaging
the membrane surface and substrate. The agents and procedures must also
meet the following criteria: (1) must be able to remove the following
contaminants from membrane surface and pores: carbon, phosphorus,
sulfur, nitrogen, petroleum hydrocarbons, zinc, copper and iron; (2)
must be non-corrosive to membrane surface and substrate; (3) must be
capable of operating in flowing streams at flow rates of 10 to 400
gallons per minute; (4) must be able to withstand an operating
temperature of 50 to 175 degrees Fahrenheit. The cost of
ultrafiltration membrane cleaning agents is also required. Responses to
this synopsis are requested within 30 days fromdate of publication.
