SOUTH BOSTON PIERS TRANSITWAY -- CONTRACTOR OUTREACH PROGRAM The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is seeking qualified Contractors and Specialty Contractors interested in being prequalified for the South Boston Piers Transitway, Contract No. E02CN15. The project includes approximately 440 feet of Ground Freezing and NATM tunneling under the Russia Wharf structures and adjacent CA/T site; 700 feet of concrete Immersed Tube Tunnel (ITT) under Fort Point Channel; 160 feet of cast-in-place tunnel box contruction; 625 linear feet of slurry wall construction; and, 350 linear feet of concrete wharf construction. The estimated construction cost is presently valued at approximately $80 million (U.S.) with an intended bid date in the 1st Quarter 1999 and a projected award by the 2nd Quarter 1999. EXISTING PREQUALIFICATIONS WITH THE MBTA ARE NOT APPLICABLE TO THIS PROJECT. All firms interested in being considered as potential General Contractors must be prequalified for this project in accordance with the terms and conditions of the MBTA's prequalification package issued pursuant to this contract, in the areas of : General Transit Construction, Precast Concrete and Slurry Wall construction. Firms interested in being considered as potential Specialty Contractors who desire to be prequalified for mined tunneling (by NATM) and/or ground freezing work must also submit a request for a prequalification package. The prequalification process will be performed as follows: May 27, 1998 -- All Contractor Requests For Prequalification Received by the MBTA June 10, 1998 -- All Prequalification forms Returned to the MBTA July 10, 1998 -- Contractors informed of Prequalification results August 10, 1998 -- Contractor Outreach Program for Prequalified firms A MANDATORY Contractor Outreach Program will be held on August 10, 1998 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA for firms that are prequalified. The Program will provide for an exchange of information with prospective General Contractors and Specialty Contractors on the construction methods to be used for Contract No. E02CN15. Information will also be provided on the risk management process being instituted and the details of specialty construction practices. Only prequalified General Contractors and Specialty Contractors may attend this Outreach Program. This Program will include a presentation of the 60% design, a tour of the proposed site and acceptance of contractor comments and questions on the Contract Documents. An information package that includes the 60% plans and specifications will be issued to all prequalified parties two weeks prior to the program.
