The US Army TACOM-ARDEC is soliciting information regarding 9mm pistol bullets or complete cartridges manufactured with lead-free, non-toxic projectile components. Ammunition is intended for service use and should provide a level of lethality comparable to the current M882 124 grain, FMJ bullet. If complete cartridges are supplied, they should be functionally compatible with 9mm military weapons including the M9 and M11 pistols and the Uzi and MP-5 submachine- guns without requiring weapon modifications or ancillary equipment. Cartridges must present no unusual risks or hazards to the user. Projectiles should exhibit a ballistic match to the M882 cartridge to a range of 50 meters. All projectiles must be free of toxic materials. Information on lead encapsulated projectiles need not be submitted. All interested sources may submit information on their product. Please include company name, address, telephone number, and technical point of contact. Product information should include cost, projectile weight, composition of pro- jectile components, and production status. Information on complete cartridges should also include ballistic data such as peak pressure, velocity, and dispersion, if available. This is only a Market Survey, not a pre-solicitation notice. Only if an acceptable lead-free projectile alternative is identified will a procurement action follow. If a formal solicitation is generated at a later date, a pre-solicitation notice will be published.
