COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 17,1998 PSA#2076Commander, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, Code 210000D, 1
Administration Circle, China Lake, CA 93555-6100 59 -- DEVELOP SOLID-STATE TRANSMITTER COMPONENTS FOR HIGH POWER
GENERATION AT KA-BAND SOL N68936-98-R-0129 DUE 060898 POC Linda Long,
Contract Specialist, (760) 939-4232 The Naval Air Warfare Center
Weapons Division, China Lake, CA intends to procure development of
solid-state transmitter components for high power generation at Ka-band
on a fully competitive basis. The effort entails three parts: (1)
developing Impact Avalanche Transit Time (IMPATT) diode designs for
high pulse power generation which meet stated performance
specifications (Frequency of 35GHz, Peak output power of 8 watts, Duty
cycle of 20-30% range, Pulse length of 30 microseconds, Conversion
efficiency of equal to/greater than 16%), growing the IMPATT material
as specified using GaAs, characterizing grown IMPATT wafer material to
establish its suitability for further processing, processing the
material into IMPATT chips, mounting the chips into suitable packages,
conducting RF testing and evaluation of the IMPATT device technology,
and developing and fabricating an IMPATT diode oscillator mount
suitable to conduct testing as well as a biasing modulator to be used
in the testing and evaluation of the IMPATT devices being developed in
the program; (2) to develop and demonstrate power combining of at
least four of the discrete packaged IMPATT devices that were developed
in part one and which meet performance specifications at Ka-band
frequency of 35Ghz; and (3) to develop and demonstrate a power
combining structure that allows the combining of twice (2X) as many
IMPATT devices in the same specified unit volume as presented in part
two and which meets performance specifications at Ka-band frequency of
35GHz. The period of performance is 18 months. All qualified sources
may submit a proposal which will be considered by the government.
