issue Invitation for Bids for the construction of ADAL COMPOSITE
MEDICAL FACILITY, U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLORADO. Bids will be opened
on or about 09 June 1998. SOLICITATION OF BIDS WILL BE RESTRICTED TO
8(a) COMPETITIVE BIDDING. ONLY QUALIFIED 8(a) FIRMS LOCATED WITHIN THE
STATE OF COLORADO WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR AWARD. Contractors interested
in inspecting the site of the proposed work should contact the Air
Force Resident Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Building 8110,

333-2979. The work will include the following: (Approx. quantities)
Construction of a 4,650 (Approx.) S.F. Clinic addition onto the
existing Hospital of the USAF Academy, CO as well as 3,750 (Approx.)
S.F. of alterations of the existing facility. The Clinic Addition and
Alteration areas will contain 23 exam rooms, office spaces, a treatment
room, a procedure room, patient screening rooms, clinic
admin./reception, patient waiting area, clinic support spaces,
mech/elec rooms, restrooms, etc. The Addition structure consists of a
steel frame with North & East exterior walls consisting of a
combination of window wall system & marble cladding and West & South
exterior walls consisting of 6 feet high CMU retaining wall with 6 inch
steel stud above with a stucco finish. The roof consists of a modified
bitumen roof system on steel deck and steel bar joist supported by
steel beam & column framing. Foundation walls, footings, and
slabs-on-grade consist of reinforced concrete. HVAC for the addition
will consist of a ducted air distribution system with A/C provided by
a new air cooled condensing unit and heating provided from heating hot
water piped from heating mains in the hospital central plant.
Alterations of HVAC systems in the existing facility consists of
relocating exhaust discharge and air intake openings and adjusting the
location of ceiling outlets and inlets. The electrical power
distribution and lighting forthe addition is supplied from the existing
hospital's main power distribution system. The alteration portion of
this project will reutilize existing circuits and/or new circuits for
distribution & lighting. Miscellaneous work includes: clearing and
grubbing, sitework, grading, sodding, lawn sprinkler system, concrete
sidewalks, concrete curb & gutter, asphalt paving, area lighting,
piping, plumbing, telecommunications, public address system, utilities
(sanitary sewer, water, storm drainage, and foundation drainage), fire
sprinkler & detection systems, asbestos abatement, insulation, gypsum
wallboard, acoustical ceiling tiles, carpeting, tile, doors, hardware,
painting, finishes, miscellaneous equipment & casework for medical
facilities, etc. The estimated construction cost of this project is
between $1,000,000 and $2,500,000. Contractor's Quality Control will be
a requirement in this contract. The Contractor will be required to
commence work within 10 days after notice to proceed and completethe
work 300 calendar days after receipt of Notice to Proceed. Provisions
will be included for liquidated damages in case of failure to complete
the work in the time allowed. Performance and payment bonds will be
required. The plans and specifications are available on Compact Disk
(CD-ROM) and will be provided free of charge. It has been determined
that the number of Compact Disks be limited to one (1) per firm. Plans
and Specifications will not be provided in a printed hard copy format.
