smith_troy@crane.navy.mil. This is a sources sought announcement for
Light Machine Guns. Currently, the United States Special Operations
Command (USSOCOM) has an approved requirement to procure a quantity of
5.56MM Light Machine Guns (LMG). It is planned to acquire the LMGs as
a Non-Developmental Item (NDI) acquisition. Each LMG shall be supplied
with the following ancillary equipment: sling, bipod, blank firing
adapter and cleaning kit. Critical characteristics of the LMG (less the
ancillary equipment) are as follows: the LMG shall weigh between 9 and
13 pounds and be between 40 and 44 inches in length. The LMG shall be
corrosion resistant and have a firing rate between 500 and 750 rounds
per minute. The LMG shall have a MIL-STD 1913 rail on it's upper
receiver for mounting optics. The LMG shall also have a MIL-STD 1913
rail system with a minimum of three rail interfaces for
mounting/interface with the accessories of the SOPMOD M4 Accessory Kit.
The LMG shall be belt fed with no provision for an
attachable/detachable box magazine. The LMG shall have a minimum
service life of 50,000 rounds and the barrel shall have a service life
of 10,000 rounds. The LMG shall have a mean rounds between stoppage of
1800-2200 rounds. The LMG shall support currently fielded day and night
optics for target acquisition. The minimum requirement is an adjustable
or graduated peep type sight currently fielded on the M4A1 Carbine. The
safety shall be ambidextrous, easy to operate under all environmental
conditions, and shall be capable of being checked by sight or touch.
Collapsible butt stocks are desirable but not essential. Additional
program requirements documentation is available upon request from the
POC. Provide the POC below with detailed product information such as
specifications, test results, catalogs, pricing and availability by 01
