INFORMATION: Under the authority of FAR 6.302-1 the Corps of Engineers,
Alaska District, intends to award a sole source contract to Ecology &
Environment, Inc. to perform the services described below. If an AE is
interested and believes they are capable of performing this work, they
are incited to submit their letter of interest. All responders are
advised that this project may be cancelled or revised at any time
during the solicitation, evaluation, negotiation and final award.
Contract award is anticipated for June 98. 2. PROJECT INFORMATION: The
former Umiat Air Force Station, located on the North Slope of Alaska,
adjacent to the Colville River, requires additional study to determine
if the site is contributing to the contamination of fish with
polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB). The site is part of the Defense
Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites. The
studies at the site have shown that PCB contaminated soils are on the
site and that the fish in the waters adjacent to the landfill are
contaminated with PCB. Additional studies are required to determine the
extend of contamination and to determine the risk to human health and
the environment. The specific information to be obtained will be the
collection of soil, water, sediment, and fish tissue samples,
laboratory analysis of collected samples, quality assurance, review and
evaluation of data, preparation of reports, designs, review
conferences, and presentation at public meeting. Letters of interest
from responding firms MUST be received at the address indicated above
not later than COB (4:00 pm Alaska time) on the 30 th day from the date
of this announcement. If the 30th day is a Saturday, Sunday, or Federal
Holiday, the deadline is the close of business of the next business
day. Any letters received after this date cannot be considered. No
additional information shall be provided, and no faxed letters shall be
accepted. Solicitation packages are not provided. A determination by
the Government not to compete the requirement based upon responses to
this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
