K. Hall, chrissa.hall@msfc.nasa.gov. NASA/MSFC plans to issue a Request
for Quotation (RFQ) for an HPLC Purification System. The HPLC
Purification System is required to handle both preparative and
analytical scale protein samples for The Protein Crystal Growth
Program. The HPLC Purification System will include two injectors, one
for preparative work at 20 ML and one for analytical work at rates of
less than 1 ML. The system has special custom tubing set up to switch
between the two. The detector has two cells which enables the system to
detect increases in absorbance and switch to the preparative mode. The
HPLC Purification System provided by Varian Chromatography also has
the unique feature that will allow both preparative flow rates from
0.025 to 25 ML/MIN and analytical protein samples for ground-based and
flight protein crystal growth experiments. This procurement is being
conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/MSFC
intends to purchase the items from from Varian Chromatography on a
sole source basis under the statutory authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1)
-- Only one responsible source. Varian Chromatography Systems is the
only source that can satisfy the requirements due their unique features
which are necessary to ensure quality and uniformity protein samples
for ground-based and flight protein crystal growth experiments. The
Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
