The CBD Submission No. 189637 incorrectly referred to the Aluminum-Manganese process as the Aluminum-Magnesium process. This is hereby corrected and the announcement should read as follows: The Department of the Navy, Naval Air Warfare Division, Aircraft Division is seeking information from potential sources who can meet the requirements for engineering and technical services contract to develop and support the aluminum and manganese molten salting process to be used as a Cadmium replacement. Currently, Naval aircraft parts are electrolytic cadmium plated in order to be corrosion resistant to salt -- air and SO2 -- mist atmospheres encountered on fossil fueled aircraft carriers. However, cadmium is on the Environmental Protection Agency's top 17 list of toxic metals, and represents a significant problem to the Navy's maintenance depots. Therefore, there exists a need to replace the electrolytic cadmium plating bath with the aluminum -manganese molten salt plating bath. This support is required to operate, maintain, mathematically model, and dispose of the production -- scale molten salt Plating bath (100 gallons), develop the operational procedures, and provide manuals necessary to develop the aluminum -- manganese molten salt plating process that will be used as a Cadmium replacement . This requirement is to procured as a Small Business Set-Aside (SIC Code 8711).
