T -- AVHRR 1-KILOMETER SATELLITE DATA OF AUSTRALIA DUE 060898 POC Robert Valdez (303) 236-5900 ext 424 Concerns having the ability to furnish the services described herein are requested to give written notification (including telephone number for a point of contact) to the procuring office above within forty-five calendar days for the date of the synopsis. The U.S. Geological Survey, EROS Data Center, has a requirement for Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) 1-kilometer satellite data of Australia that has been previously acquired and archived by CSIRO Office of Space Science and Applications from October 1, 1997 through September 30, 1998. The USGS cooperates with Department of Interior bureaus and other Federal Government organizations in the development of applications and providing products and analytical services requiring satellite (AVHRR) data of United Sates and foreign areas of the Earth. In addition, the USGS has embarked on a cooperative program with NASA, NOAA, and the European Space Agency (ESA) to create and maintain a digital archive of full-resolution AVHRR data acquired on a daily basis of all land surfaces worldwide. As the AVHRR TIROS series satellite orbits the Earth and records information emitted or reflected off the various surfaces of the Earth, it transmits this information back down to various reception stations. Based on the information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253 (1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the item specified as a sole source from CSIRO Office of Space Science and Application, Canberra, Australia, and proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required item/services or its functional equivalent (based upon the criteria specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. An affirmative response would include literature, brochures and such other materials which correspond to the required items stated herein. This information willbe evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation document exists, requests for such document without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request without further consideration. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement. See Note 22. (0110)
