EPA/RTI ETV WORKSHOP FOR FILTER TESTING LABORATORIES The Research Triangle Institute (RTI) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) program is holding a workshop for laboratories interested in participating in a general ventilation air filter program. The goal of the overall ETV program is to verify the environmental performance characteristics of commercial-ready technologies through the evaluation of objective and quality assured data so that potential purchasers and permitters are provided with an independent and credible assessment of what they are buying and permitting. RTI's program covers products used indoors, including the measurement of particle size dependent efficiency for filters used for general ventilation. The test protocol is based on the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) proposed standard 52.2, Method of Testing General Ventilation Air-Cleaning Devices for Removal Efficiency by Particle Size. The workshop will be held on May 18 and 19 at RTI, 3040 Cornwallis Road, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709. The first day includes an introduction to ETV and to the proposed test method. There will be a discussion of the testing and equipment used as well as the quality management and proficiency requirements for laboratories taking part in the program. The second day is intended specifically for laboratory test personnel and is a more detailed discussion of the testing, limited to 12 participants.
