(202)619-3683 The International Bureau of Broadcasting (IBB), Voice of
America (VOA) a leading international radio broadcast organization, is
seeking qualified individuals for free-lance journalist assignments in
overseas areas not serviced by the VOA staff correspondents. The VOA
broadcasts in English and 46 other languages. Journalist submitted news
reports will be used in broadcasting to an international audience.
General Information: 1. Free-lance assignments are performed on
contract basis. 2. Sources may be required to undergo a background
security investigation and pass the clearance process successfully to
receive the assignments. 3. Contractor candidates must be willing to
work on an as required basis, depending on when VOA requires the filing
of news stories. 4. Free-lance assignments are requested as needed. VOA
makes no guarantees on the amount of work contractors can expect to
receive. 5. The Government is obligated to inspect all contractor work
to insure it satisfies contractor requirements. TheGovernment is
further obligated to reject all work which fails to meet
Government-specified requirements. The following criteria will be used
to evaluate prospective contractors: Newspaper, wire service, radio or
television experience. Experience in writing news for broadcast.
Extensive knowledge of target broadcast language. Ability to produce
work which demonstrates a keen knowledge of national and international
issues. Ability to explain complex issues in clear, logical terms that
can be understood by world-wide audience. Individuals having the
ability to furnish these services should write and request additional
