The Office on Women's Health(OWH) and the Office on HIV/AIDS Policy(OHAP) through the Program Support Center, General Acquisitions Branch, intends to award a 4 month sole source Simplified Acquisition to the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families. The contractor will target Latino women immigrants for an HIV/AIDS prevention education project. Through a multi-stage process involving interactive discussions, skills building in safer sex measures, the showing of a film in Spanish, and skits which develop negotiating skills in these women, targeted Latino women immigrants will learn important HIV/AIDS prevention skills. The target community, epidemiological profile and constituency served, will be that of New York City's Latino women population. The prevention education process is organized into three phases that build and reinforce each other. The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc., is uniquely qualified to develop and conduct a pilot educational and prevention HIV program for Latinowomen based on their previous outreach and educational success in the Latino community in New York City. They have been successfully involved in previous HIV/AIDS education efforts, and developed and implemented the Proyecto GOAL for which this project represents an extension of the previous program.
