COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 6,1998 PSA#2089JOINT FIELD TRIAL-5 (JFT-5) FOR BIOLOGICAL POINT DETECTION
COMPONENT/SYSTEM TESTING. The Joint Program Office for Biological
Defense (JPO-BD) has conducted biological JFTs since 1994. The JPO-BD
is preparing for JFT-5. It will be conducted 21 Sep -- 16 Oct 98 and
Jan 99 (exact dates TBD) at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah. The objective
of this field trial is to provide developers an opportunity to
demonstrate their devices' potential for inclusion in current and
future biological programs managed by the JPO-BD. JFTs also allow
developers with less advanced systems a chance to obtain unique
performance data to help further their development. The JFT is an
internationally recognized forum; devices participating in JFT-5 may
become visible to a number of U.S. and foreign agencies. JFT-5 will
assess candidate technologies for potential inclusion or transition
into biological detection acquisition programs such as the Joint
Biological Point Detection System (JBPDS), the Joint Biological Remote
Early Warning System (JBREWS), and the Anti-Bio Terrorism/Consequence
Management Program. Devices will be evaluated for their functionality
as triggers, collectors, detectors or identifiers. Devices may perform
more than one function. To be responsive to this announcement and
receive a copy of the entrance criteria letter, developers/sponsors
must supply the following in writing to the JPO-BD no later than close
of business 26 May 98. A description of the device(s) to include its
capabilities and characteristics, all relevant test reports and how
long it has been in development/production. Please send all requests to
