Livermore National Laboratory, seeks sources for Special Equipment Beam
Transport System STEEL SPACE FRAME SWITCHYARD No. 2. The scope of this
project includes material procurement, shop fabrication from detail
drawings, on-site erection, and on-site installation of a large steel
space frame referred to as "Switchyard No. 2". The completed structure
is 92 ft. tall, with a 68 ft. X 76 ft. footprint, weighs 700 +/- tons,
and is supported laterally to existing concrete walls with horizontal
bracing. The main structural supports are constructed from ASTM A500
steel tubing with full-penetration welded, moment resisting joints. A36
wide flange floor beams are bolted to the main tubing members and
support aluminum grating and monorails on each of 7 levels. On-site
erection includes field welding four 150 ton sub-space frames outside
the concrete building on temporary concrete footings installed by the
space frame contractor, and hoisting each sub frame through the open
roof using a crane supplied and operated by the LLNL. Tolerances for
steel erection will meet one-half (1/2) the requirements of AISC Code
of Practice. The contractor must be properly licensed, should have at
least ten years experience in steel welded-moment-frame structure
construction projects of similar scope, scale, and value. Responses are
required no later than close of business three (3) weeks after
publication in the CBD. LLNL will pre-qualify all firms performing work
on Special Equipment Switchyard Steel. Interested firms should respond
with a one page narrative of your company's capabilities and past
experience in Structural Steel work, including your company's EMR for
the last three years. In addition to the narrative, interested firms
must submit a short list of projects completed that closely match the
work described above. This list must include names and current
telephone numbers of the owner, engineer, architect or General
Contractor familiar with the work performed. A short list will be
developed from those companies submitting qualification narratives. The
short listed companies will be interviewed by project personnel to
determine their qualifications and experience. A sufficient number of
pre qualified firms will be chosen to competitively bid on the
Switchyard No. 2 steel work. Firms responding to this announcement
which fail to provide the required information will not be considered
for inclusion into any resulting source list. Facsimile and telephone
responses will not be accepted. Mail your response to LLNL; Attn: Vern
Davis; PO Box 808, L-443; Livermore, CA 94551. This notice is to
assist the University in determining sources only; no solicitation is
currently available. (0126) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0114 19980511\Y-0020.SOL)
