Fax 309-782-4955 (Site Code DAAA09) 17. 70 -- The Rock Island Arsenal
is conducting a sources sought survey to identify industry/academia
that have ongoing projects/research and/or product development in the
areas of automation/robotics, non-destructive sensor/multi sensors and
data fusion/analysis and software that can be used for the detection,
characterization and quantification of corrosion damage. Primary
corrosion detection and characterization technologies of interest are
eddy current (pulsed or multi-frequency), ultrasonic, and enhanced
visual techniques. Information provided may be considered in a multi-
service corrosion detection advanced technology demonstration project
for aging military aircraft and helicopters. The project approach is
multiple sensors mounted on a robot, crawler or other device that can
be programmed to traverse and inspect an aircraft/helicopter. It is
envisaged that with one pass of the machine, multiple sensors would be
automatically initiated if/when needed. The data output from these
sensors would then be fused using appropriate algorithms that have been
activated to increase the accuracy and the probability of detection.
Parties should state any Research and Development projects on
going/planned and manufacturing capabilities. Parties may also identify
technologies and/or techniques not listed above that they feel may be
relevant. Mature research currently being pursued by private industry
and academia can be used as a foundation for defense applications.
Interested parties should respond to this sources sought by
transmitting three hard copies of the information relevant and specific
products no later than 22 May 1998. Information should include
specifications (weight, size and detection levels), brochures,
literature papers, articles, etc. that explain the system, technology
or technique used. Only written communications will be accepted and
should be addressed to the point of contact. Please note: There is no
firm requirement for this and funds are not available. This action has
no relationship to any formal solicitation. No solicitation will be
issued at this time. Participation in this effort is strictly voluntary
with no cost or obligation to be incurred by the Government. The
Government will in no way be obligated to purchase all or any part of
the description above. All information obtained from this request shall
be made available for competitive bidding purposes, should the need
arise. Interested parties should submit responses to HQ, Industrial
Operations Command, ATTN: AMSIO-ACI-A/Linda Lysiak, Rock Island, IL
