The U.S. Special Operations Command is seeking to identify sources that
are currently producing a Color Weather Radar for or which can be used
on rotary wing aircraft. A minimum of 13 and maximum of 55 units will
be purchased. We anticipate issuance of a solicitation during the 4th
quarter of FY98. The Color Radar must meet the following requirements:
1. The system will be fully stabilized to 25 degrees combined pitch and
roll; 2. The system will have four level color; 3. The system will have
the following ranges: 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 5.0, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, and 240
nm; 4. The system shall be fully EFIS compatible using ARINC 429 and
ARINC 453 data bus structure; 5. The system will have an 18" maximum
diameter antenna; 6. The system shall be capable of surface search; 7.
The system shall have a selectable 120 degree and 60 degree scan; 8.
The system shall be independent of a display. The Army intends to
integrate the system into an existing display capable of utilizing
ARINC 453; 9. The system must comply with ARINC 708 protocol for bit
structure, labels and timing; 10. The contractor must be willing (after
award) to enter into a data exchange agreement with our cockpit
integrator and provide such data as is necessary, i.e. interface
control documents, to allow for integration of the Color Weather Radar
into the cockpit management system. All sources that have a system
that meets or exceeds these requirements are encouraged to respond.
Your response should include the following information: (A) Product
literature concerning your firms experience manufacturing Color Weather
Radars; (B) A full description of the system, including space, weight
and power requirements; (C) Whether or you have a system in production
and, if it is in production, who the current customers are; (D)
Identify current military and/or commercial applications of your
product. Please respond to this notice not later than 5 June 1998.
