The U.S. Army Soldier Systems Command (SSCOM) has a requirement to test specific communication radios for potential inclusion in the joint Army/Marine Corps Military Operations Urban Terrain -- Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (MOUT -- ACTD) Program. Those radios being tested have been chosen, after careful consideration of available radios in the marketplace, because of their expected capability to meet certain MOUT-unique performance requirements. Small quantities (up to 5 units/contract) will be procured in specific frequencies (UHF and VHF) from Motorola (Scotsdale, AZ), ICOM (Bellevue, WA), Advanced Technology Solutions (Chantilly, VA), and Bendix/King (Vienna, VA) for further evaluation as to their capability to function in a MOUT environment. Those radios that show promise in this stage will be procured in quantities of approximately 12 units/contract for use in upcoming MOUT experiments at Ft. Benning, GA.
