The Naval Air Warfare Center intends to negotiate and issue a contract modification to reduce the weight of Crusader optical relay components and improve the I2 CCD camera from a line rate resolution of 525 to 875. In addition, options will be added to purchase up to 12 non-functional mock-up Crusader HMD systems and up to 6 fully functional flight worthy day/night Crusader HMD system, up to 10 sets of image fusion cards, up to 10 sets of symbol generation cards and an optical bench. The modification is intended to be issued to Gentex Corp. under N62269-95-C-0008 in support of the Advanced Helmet Vision System (AHVS) Program. Gentex Corp., in fulfillment of contract N62269-95-C-0008, has developed a proprietary two-part helmet system. The outer shell contains the optical relays and I2 CCD camera, while the inner helmet ensures the proper fit and stability. The improved optical relays and I2 CCD camera must integrate with this outer shell. The fully functional HMDs must be identical to the 2 functional Crusader HMDs already under contract for laboratory and flight evaluation purposes.
