Gonzalez, Audrey.R.Gonzalez@lerc.nasa.gov. THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES
AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR "AIR TURBINE AND
CONTROLLER". Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their
quote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject
synopsis/RFQ and a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of
this amendment is to replace the previous specifications with the
following: Requirement is for an air turbine with a control system
capable of accelerating a 100lbm rotor to a maximum speed of 60000rpm
and decelerating the rotor in as short of cycle time as possible. The
total cycle time at 90psi supply air, with the cycle time being defined
as the time required to accelerate the rotor from a low speed of
19000rpm to a maximum speed of 60000rpm and then decelerate back to
19000rpm shall be less than 5 minutes. -Air supply required at the
control valve inlet shall not exceed 110psi. -Maximum air consumption
shall be 600 SCFM. -A speed transducer shall be included. -The control
system shall include a controller, servo-throttle valve, and solenoid
valves along with all cabling between componenets. -The control system
shall have the capability to be interfaced to a PC for all operator
interfaces. No keypad or displays are required. -The control system
shall include an overspeed shutdown and input circuitry to allow
external test abort signals. -AC auxiliary relays shall be provided for
control of external devices at selectable speeds. -The control system
shall include programmable ramp rates and speed settings along with
cycle programming capability to allow programming and automated
unattended operation of at least 20,000 cycles. -The air turbine system
shall include an oil mist lubrication system including all pumps,
filters, and valves. -The air turbine system shall include a high-speed
rotating shaft vacuum feedthru and seal system, with a 1x10(-5) cc/sec
helium leak rate maximum, utilizeing a helium mass spectrometer. -The
air turbine system shall include a shaft damper system and spindle.
-The air turbine shall include an acoustic muffler on the turbine
discharge. -The air turbine system and controller shall be fully
documented with installation, operataion, and maintenance drawings and
procedures. The due date for receipt of offers is extended to May 26,
1998. Companies shall provide the information stated in the
synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on
