COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 20,1998 PSA#2099Los Alamos National Laboratory, PO Box 1663, Mail Stop: D442, Los

Report, http://cst.lanl.gov/IPFgate. E-MAIL: Contact the procurement
official via e-mail, bradkemp@lanl.gov. We are interested in locating
qualified organizations with accelerator/beam transport systems
experience, that may be interested in completing the design,
fabrication, and pre-assembly of the beam line or some of its key
elements. We are currently developing a Design & Fabricate
specification for the purpose of requesting formal proposals in the
late summer of this year. It is our intent to issue an RFP if there are
organizations that express interest and demonstrate ability as a result
of this request. The Los Alamos National Laboratory Office of Isotope
Production is constructing a new irradiation facility at the Los Alamos
Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) for the purpose of enhancing our
medical isotope production capability. The plan is to insert a pulsed
magnet (kicker) into the Transition Region (TR) assembly that lies
between the Drift Tube Linac and the Side Coupled Cavity Linac which
comprise the LANSCE accelerator. The kicker will extract macro pulses
of 100 MeV protons at a maximum frequency of 30 Hz and a nominal beam
current of 250 mA. These protons will be transported through a beam
line containing steering and focusing elements, vacuum stations, beam
diagnostic elements, and beam safety plugs, to a shielded target
chamber/beam dump. A Conceptual Design Report (CDR), describing the
project was published in August 1996. It is available to the public on
the World Wide Web at "http://cst.lanl.gov/IPFgate". The project is a
line item in the FY99 budget presently being considered by the
Congress. Approval is anticipated before October 1,1998. We are
currently improving the conceptual design of critical aspects of the
project and are preparing to rapidly accelerate the project at the
beginning of FY99. Preparation activities include assessing the
availability of resources to execute the project. All plans are subject
to Congressional approval of funding. No representation or promise is
made to pay for any vendor costs. Interested parties should read the
CDR and send letters expressing interest and describing qualifications
by May 29, 1998. (0135) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0319 19980520\66-0012.SOL)
