COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 20,1998 PSA#2099Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Contracts Department,
Building 129-2, Highway 547, Lakehurst, NJ 08733-5083 J -- METHODS FOR RESTORATION OF CATAPULT TROUGH COVER TRACK CHANNELS
SOL N68335-98-RFI-804 DUE 061098 POC Amy Hayward, Code 2131AH,
732-323-2921 Request information on welding methods for the restoration
of Catapult Trough Cover Track Channels. During a launch cycle, the
shuttle rollers contact both the upper and lower track channel flanges
resulting in wear along each surface. Restoration is required to
alleviate interference between various catapult components and extend
the life of the trough cover. The track channels, which conform to
MIL-S-22664, HY 100, are welded to the trough cover body. Restoration
will be accomplished by clad welding with Inconel 625 along the
horizontal and vertical flange surfaces with a low-distortion welding
process. Restoration must not cause any dimensional distortion of the
trough covers. Welding and inspection will be in accordance with the
requirements of MIL-STD-278 and MIL-STD-271. The minimum final machined
thickness for the Inconel 625 is 1/8 inch and the iron content shall
not exceed 8 percent at the final machined surface. Stress relieving of
the trough cover is prohibited. Respondents to this Request for
Information are invited to submit information for thee restoration of
Trough Cover Track Channels. The information submitted must include
technical description of the method and experience welding Inconel 625
to MIL-S-22664, HY 100 material. Any information may/may not be
included in a formal solicitation. The Government will not pay for any
information received in response to this RFI nor will the Government
compensate any respondent for any costs incurred in developing the
information provided to the Government. There is no solicitation
package. This is a Request for Information only. (0138) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0051 19980520\J-0019.SOL)
